Dorothea Seel
Historical Flutes & Artistic Direction

Dorothea Seel is a flutist, artistic director, and specialist in historical flutes from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods. Her work combines historically informed performance with refined stylistic awareness and a strong commitment to expressive, rhetorically shaped interpretation.
As a soloist, chamber musician, and Artistic Director of Barocksolisten München, she creates concert programmes that unite artistic depth, historical imagination, and carefully developed dramaturgy. Alongside the core repertoire, her work places particular emphasis on the rediscovery of lesser-known composers and rarely performed works.
She has performed with renowned ensembles including The English Concert, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Concerto Köln, Concentus Musicus Wien, and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.
Dorothea Seel teaches at the University Mozarteum Salzburg / Department Innsbruck and is active in artistic research and historically informed performance practice. Her dissertation was published as a book by Wißner Verlag in 2020. Since 2025, she serves as Vice President of the Deutsche Mozart-Gesellschaft. Alongside her musical work, she is also active as a visual artist, creating large-scale paintings.
